Walk into a simpler time...
In 1891 city engineer Jacob Lott Ludlow, following the then new advice of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, allowed the streets of West End to gently cascade around 270 degrees of hillside. There is but one block in the entire historic district that has a squared shape. The result today is a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood that's compact yet with constantly changing vistas, continually open to discoveries.
If you need a break from your stroll, stop into a West End shop or restaurant, or hop on today's "West End trolley" bus, and shuttle into downtown.
